They retrieved 17 eggs, 13 of them were mature (this is common, not all of them will be mature).
Only 4 of them fertilized. We were warned in advance that when using "retrieved" sperm (like they have to do in men with CBAVD), the fertilization rate tends to be lower. They don't know exactly why, but it seems to be lower. Nevertheless, it didn't keep me from being nearly brokenhearted when they called to say that only 4 had fertilized. I thought for sure that it would be unsuccessful (how wrong could I be???!) Then on the AM of the transfer, when we got there, they told us onl 3 had survived the night Then I was convinced we should just give up.
If you haven't already looked into it, I recommend accupuncture the day of the transfer. I had a 30 min session before the transfer and a 30 min session after the transfer.
Also, get a pineapple the day before the transfer and cut it into 5 sections, INCLUDING the core (usually you throw that out). Pineapple contains bromeline which has been shown to help with implantation. So, you eat 1 of these 5 sections on the day of your transfer (but about 5+ hours AFTER the transfer) and then every day till you've eaten all 5 sections.
I was on lupron supression, with follistim pen and Repronex, but I honestly forget what the repronex was for. I know I didnt' start using it until the follistim though. I'll have to try and look that one up.
Yes, I did the progesterone in oil.... um for about 4 days and then I coudln't walk anymore. My but hurt SOOOO bad. So I went back to the vag. suppositories. Yes it was nasty, (I used them 3x a day) but much more tolerable than the shots. Mark had to help me with the shots, it was so painful to do because the liquid is so thick and takes a long time to go in (just being honest here). So, I wouldn't invest extensively in the PIO, try it out first.
I used the suppositories for about 18-19 weeks, at about 12 weeks the doc said I could stop, but I felt better continuing longer.
Let me know if you have more questions, I'm going to go try to figure out what the repronex is for, lol.
