I know there are several of us in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area and just wanted to give you a heads up that the Stenzel sisters will be speaking/reading from their book tomorrow. Sorry I didn't post this sooner but just happened to look and see this. I don't think I'll be there because I haven't felt fabulous lately and have been trying to catch up on sleep but hope some other people will be able to see this reading.

Monday, May 5 7pm
McIntyre's Author Event: Isabel and Anabel Stenzel
McIntyre's welcomes Isabel and Anabel Stenzel to read from their book The Power of Two: A Twin Triumph Over Cystic Fibrosis. This is an honest, compelling book about their experiences as biracial twins growing up with a genetic lung disease called cystic fibrosis, and ultimately receiving life saving lung transplants as adults. Born in 1972 in California to Japanese and German immigrant parents, the Stenzels are identical twins who recount their lifelong struggle to pursue normal lives with cystic fibrosis while grappling with the realization that they will die young. This coming-of-age story reveals their tumultuous battle against their bodies, their desire for independent identities and gradual acceptance of being loveable despite being physically different. In the end, the twins discover their deep-seated dependence on each other has allowed them to survive long enough to reap the benefits of miraculous lung transplants. In this book, they share a life shaped by cultural tradition, dedication from a family that would not give up, and inspiration from others who have cystic fibrosis. Call McIntyre's Fine Books at (919) 542-3030 for information.

I live in the N.Y. area, so wont be catching this one. I did see Isa in February at a family education day held in Stony Brook , N.Y. Isa signed my book and gave a talk..
The experience of meeting Isa, listening to her talk and reading The Power of Two will stay with me forever..
It is a powerful book and i recommend it to all c/fer and their families. Their story touched my heart. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0"> joni

I can't say enough good things about the Stenzel twins!!!! I also read their book this year but I have known them for about 15 years. We met at the Northern California CFRI camp (now known as Retreat, yes it's still going!)

Anyway, the book is a very honest portrayal of not only their special bond as twins, their unique interracial family environment but it also elaborates quite thoroughly on the daily rituals of medications, GI problems CPT and all the mucus that goes along with it. I've recommended it to several friends and after they read it (they've known me for years) they finally get CF. They usually have comments like, "OMG i had no idea!" I highly recommend this book. It is a very "real" book about CF.

The twins are also chronicling their road trip across the USA on their blog.

I just finished the book, and it was fabulous. My twin sis (no CF) heard about the book and asked me to send it to her so she can read it too. I highly recommend it to anyone.
