Sterilizing nebs

Can anyone suggest a method for sterilizing nebulizers?

My son takes pulmozyme. Should we be putting his nebulizer in the dishwasher to sterilize or is a microwave baby bottle sterilizer better? What about his mask? What's best to store the nebulizers in after sterilization?

I don't want to get too lax then find out the hard way that we're not being as cautious as we should be w/ his nebulizer.

This is all new to me, so I need your sage advice!

Hi there,

I wash Andrews nebs every night with hot soapy water, then boil them on the stove for 10 minutes. After that I let them air dry on a paper towel until they are completely dry, then put them in an airtight container in the cupboard.

I used to put them in the dishwasher, which gets hot enough, but water gets trapped in the cups and they do not dry completely, Any water remaining on the cups once they are cool could grow more bacteria, thus infecting your disinfected nebulizers.

The point is to sterilize and DRY!!!! Water born bacteria cannot grow on a clean, dry surface. I thought about getting the germ guardian, but then I read that they only keep the contents sterile for I think 6 to 12 hours. I only sterilize our nebs once in a 24 hour period, so I thought maybe I would be defeating the purpose. I continue to use the good old fashioned boiling method.

was anyone ever told to rinse the nebs out after you use them and then put them in a bath of vingear and water? i do this after i use them. i rinse them out and then put them in vingear and water. i change out the vingear and water like once a week and wash the bowl in between too. i also use a tupperwear bowl so that i have a lid i can put on it. anyways that's what i do.
