i had a six year bout of episodic pain that was as elusive as many of those discussed here.
mine turned out to be an intussuseption. basically it is when the intestine (my case, the large) telescopes over itself and tries pull itself through itself. VERY painful. it was difficult to dx because the test ordered in response to my visits (which included ct scat, ultrasounds, etc) were always conducted in between episodes.
finally it was caught by an endoscopy that was administered immediately upon an er visit.
within 24 hrs i was in surgery, and had the troulbe areas removed. mine was caused by polyps that had developed in my large intestine.
intussusseption is documented in realtion to cf, but somehow it's always overlooked as a possibility. my symtpoms included intense abdominal pain primarily on my right side. and from time to time i could even see a mass in that area.
the mass was always taken to be an obsruction and treated with a laxative. which, of course, never worked.
