Stopping Treatment.

I will try to make this short. I am looking to telling my doctors and mom that I wish to stop the treatment for my cystic fibrosis and diabetes. I was wondering what will the doctors do for my end treatment and what should I expect? Of course I am already having a lung function which is constantly going up and down. Mostly down and I know that 95% of cf patients die from Co2(spelling?) poisoning. So death will be usually unexpected or sudden. I just wish to know what can the doctors do to help ease any pain I might get. Also what should I expect from ending treatment?

I think you are grossly misinformed about end stage CF. Tho I understand your general ideas.

Its definitely something you need to spell out, make sure you are on the same page as your doctor & find out what the law says. For example....DNR will allow basic stuff, but no extreme measures like life support.

I have a feeling that CF will fall into that gray area of what is basic stuff & what is extreme measures.

Remember also that there is a good chance as "the time" gets closer where you might very well change your mind! Its one of those things that you cant say for sure unless you are depressed & just wanting it all to stop!

It is a topic that I, personally, feel should (if nothing else) be mentioned among family & caregivers.......

Like Melissa, I too think that you are grossly misinformed about end stage CF. It's true that you can die because of CO2 poisoning. But... it really is not unexpected or sudden. That is nothing like how I have seen friends pass away.

As to what should you expect from ending treatment... I don't think your doctors or mum and dad will let you do that without a fight.

Can I ask why you want to stop fighting CF?
