hello, everyone

as many know, i've been having lots of issues with decrease in FEV1 lately (even 3 weeks abx i proved sensitive to in synergy did nothing for). i've always thought it wasn't an exacerbation, but maybe the MAC acting up OR the new climate we moved to (texas humidity versus vegas heat) OR not exercising like i used to (BAD me!)

anyway, i've had very very little cough for months. just dry, raspy... even with hypertonic twice a day. even with huff coughing.

well, now that it went from hot and in the 80's to cold in the 40's-50's with the heater blasting, i am coughing up stuff again and it feels great! the problem is, its a nearly constant hack now. i usually can get some good stuff up and can take a deep breath finally.

i attribute this solely to the cold, dry air, but think its weird cause shouldn't the humidity of the summer/fall have brough up more gunk than the drying air of the winter? my throat and airways do feel irritated, but i'll take that ANY day if it means i can cough this crap out and clear my lungs again. i was getting worried since i haven't had a "good normal CF cough" in MONTHS. i'm even waking up in the morning coughing a lot (starts with that dry tickly cough and then eventually brings stuff up... its wonderful! LOL)

anyway, does anyone else notice this with the change in seasons and if so, which seasons are best or worse for you?

i'm also noticing now that i'm back to jogging that i can jog further and my HR isn't as high after my jog and i'm not sweating or as beet red in the face. i also think this is due to the colder air, but it makes no sense since i'm in a gym that the temp is very constant at. does this make sense to you guys?

thanks,

Hi Sonia,

Well, I'm not sure if I'm touching on exactly what you're looking for...but, I have a lot of problems with coughing in the winter. I actually hung Xmas lights outside yesterday, the temperature was in the 30's. I came inside coughing so dang hard that I gave myself the worst headache! The cold air makes me cough and cough, but as soon as I'm in the warm again it goes away. I guess it's just a bronchospasm-y response to the cold air. I would definitely say that summer is my only really good time of year where I rarely have problems or exacerbations. Between fall and spring is when I tend to have more issues, due to sicknesses floating around, weather changes, etc. The air is definitely drier in the winter too, which makes it much harder to cough up junk and I tend to get a dry, hacky cough rather than a productive one and everything just feels stuck.

Hope that helps!

lately i feel that i've been coughing up less, but it's gotten much colder, however i'm also on cipro. so i'm not sure if it could be cipro causing less mucous production or what.
