So its been 4 years since I've cultured MRSA...and it decides to rear its ugly head now. UGH I'm totally bummed. The only treatment I know of is vancamycin...and as far as I know nursing momma's can't use it. (Have any mommas done vanc & nursed? Effect on baby?) Has anyone ever just left there MRSA untreated??

Also in the hospitals yall have been at what are the normal contact precautions? Here they just use a mask and gloves. Most other places Ive been at they used gowns too.

And I was slightly peeved that the nurse tech that jsut came in to do my stats didnt mask - I sure hope she does in other rooms.

Jessica,
Sorry about the MRSA. My daughters both have cultured it off and on, but only one of my girls has ever been treated for it. And then, she was only treated for it when symptoms arised, like an increase in cough or overall just feeling crummy...
No info on the breastfeeding part though...my girls are a bit too young for that yet<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
By the way, Kayla did better with oral Zyvox than she did with the IV vanc. It seemed to really kick the MRSA down much better!

I have to agree with Tammy, Zyvox is like liquid gold with Zoe's MRSA. She does it iv in hospital, then they put her on oral Zyvox at home.

Good luck to you!

The nurse not maskin up hit a chord with me. Some nurses are very rebellious and think just cause they aren't going to have much contact with you, " This is thier thinking", they don't need one. If I were you I would call her on it and ask that she respect your needs. You don't need to catch anything else. Shame on her.

When this happened to me I simply asked in a quizicle manner, why don't you where a mask or gloves or robe, which ever it is, just so I can understand their thinking so I can really educate rather than expend energy getting angry, energy I don't have to spare. I do have energy to teach. I always will. Even when Im dead and gone.

I feel for you Jessica. and will keep you in my prayers. I wish I had more info for you about the MRSA.
