sudden shortness of breath

Hey all!

It was only a week ago that I started exercising again. My FEV has been in the 30s. I was doing a Walk off the Pounds DVD and pilates. I was feeling great! I was able to "walk" a mile a day and the pilates was making me feel like I was becoming less vegetabley. I was doing this everyday and was so excited that I might gain some really great results with my muscles and lung capacity. About three days ago, I got this heavy wheeze in my left lung that would not let up. Over the last three days, I've been increasingly getting short of breath. I tried working out yesterday with my O2 on, and that was a disaster. I barely made it through my walking dvd, keeling over half way through just to catch my breath...and I was not having this shortness of breath less than a week ago! I couldn't workout today either, today has been the worst. I tried calling the doc, but no one was reachable at the office and didn't call me back after I left a message (we had a HORRIBLE snow storm, I imagine there were many people not even able to make it in). I'm currently on IVs (have been for about 5 mos), so I don't *think* it's a sudden infection. Has this happened to anyone before? This all came on so suddenly. Did I do too much when I started exercising? Could it be pneumonia? My asthma? I've been needing albuterol every four hours just to make breathing bearable. Could it be a lung collapse? I'm not having any pain, just wheezing and shortness of breath.

Any suggestions for some relief until I can get a hold of the doc? Would any of you guys skip the weekend and just go to the ER? I feel like it would turn out to be nothing if I did that...and I HATE our ER.

Like I said, I know this is general and I probably won't really get specific responses, but this has never happened so fast. I feel like it has to be the exercising, but that makes no sense.

Thanks.

It could be a lot of things..

It kinda sounds like you have dislodged a Plug or maybe a few.

Have you're O2 Sats dropped ? Are You Hydrating ??? With the new
working out you are loosing a lot of water breathing.

I know when I am dehydrated I get very SOB. My Fev1 is the same as yours
Try Fluids , water G2 and of course Keep trying to get You Doctor on
the phone !

I hope You feel better soon and can get back to you're works outs.

Sounds like a collapsed lung to me. When my lung collapsed, I had the same symptoms. You should go to the ER.
