Swim team

<P><BR>Taylor swims on a swim team that uses an indoor pool year round. It is great exercise and she loves it! Our doctor has no reservations about it.</P>

I swam year round when I was younger through middle school. Now I still swim but try to steer clear of swimming in public swimming areas all the time, but that is because I am post transplant. Though I will say my docs say more of the concern comes if you are at risk for ingesting water. They want to avoid the water, and the bacteria it contains, getting into your lungs.

I would imagine that would be a similar concern for pre transplant CFers too. I personally loved swimming and think it was one of the best things I maintained when I was younger. I wish I had stuck with it because I feel it would have helped me maintain my health longer.

<P>Anyways I started swimming when I was about 3 (one of the few who was actually forced to do it, but now I realize its benefits) and continued until about the end of high school. Back then in my area all the swim teams had pools outdoors, so that was primarily where I trained. </P>

<P>Now though I swim at 24 hour fitness, which only has an indoor pool. I have yet to culture any new bacteria. Just make sure to keep up with your childs cultures and it should be fine. My doctor told me public pools are usually better maintained than private pools as well, which means less chance of culturing something new. </P>
