Synergist Vaccine

My 4-month-old son's primary care pediatrician recommended that our son receive the Synergist shot for RSV prevention during the fall/winter months this year; however, we have just learned that our insurance will not pay for the shot (and it will cost us $500.00 per shot if we self-pay). I contacted our CF clinic and the nurse said that the RSV vaccine is "not recommended for CF patients). I'm confused--I've seen in other sources that it is recommended. Do other infants with CF get this vaccine? Does insurance usually pay?

Our was highly recommended by our CF center and our CF nurse fought insurance until they covered the whole thing. Synagis is expensive, I think our explanation of benefits charged it at $1600 a shot. But even if you add that up over the 6 months you need it, its cheaper than a week stay in the hospital.

RSV can have damaging, life long, effects on the lungs of normal, healthy people. So the risk for a CF kiddo is just too high, in my opinion. I'm quite surprised your CF center doesn't recommend it and wonder why.
