Keep in mind that any type of cancer can prevent you from a lung tx for a few years....

Tanning beds can cause cancer just as sunlight can.

Imagine not being able to get a tx when you need one because of vanity? I know your hubby just wants to lift your spirits, but there should be other ways than a cancer inducing activity <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

From the CDC's website:

"Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.

"Approximately 65% - 90% of melanomas are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light or sunlight.

<b>"Tanning beds and sunlamps emit ultraviolet rays that are as dangerous as those from the sun and, therefore, should be avoided </b>"

My CF doc actually told me to go tanning a month in advance of a cruise that I went on so that when I was out in the sun on the cruise, I wouldn't get so burnt. I never did go in and do the tanning thing, but my doc was okay with it. And yes, I had a port.

As for the cancer thing, don't you have to do it over and over and over again for there to be any chance of cancer. I mean, she is only going to do it a few times (like I would have) so what's the harm. You're only in there for like 10 mins at a time and there are a lot of people who are out in the sun for like hours a day. It's not like someone is going to instantly get cancer from walking out into the sun.

I tan at least once a month... I used to tan a couple times a week... I understand what you are saying about that wouls be real crappy to need tx and not able to get one because you had tanned, though I am guessing the likelihood of that happening are not real great... and I say if it makes you smile, well then do it!!!
I hope that helped...
