teens and young adults with CF AND mild mental retardation

I am looking for young adults with CF or other similiar respiratory problems AND who have a mild mental retardation. I would like to start a group with these people so that they will be able to interact with each other and the care givers can find respite solutions where the patient will be given the care they need and deserve. I have several questions. is mental retardation and respritory problems common together? Just wondering. The other question is: is this for people with only mental retardation or can someone with mild cerbal palsey be a part of it?I know a lady who adopted a little girl, twins really boy and girl, the little girl has atypical cf and mild Cerbal Palsy. It might be good for the mom to interact with other parents in the same situation is what I am getting at. So let me know if she can be a part as well.AB

This is just my total "non-medical" statement, but I have never heard of CF & mental retardation until this message & having CF for 30+ years, you would think I would have seen some of this at CF Clinics, etc or heard about it.I don't know much at all about cerebal palsy, but wonder if it's more related to being a "preemie" (if this is the case) or just genetic, like the CF?The only reason I would venture to guess that mild retardation & CF would exsist is if the child had gone w/o oxygen for a long period of time around the time of birth??Again, just thoughts off the top of my head.....
