the heat

It's getting to be quite hot here in ohio, and it's really starting to bother my breathing. It's always bugged me a little bit every year, but it's just causing so many problems for me this year. My chest is ALWAYS tight, I'm always coughing with no production and lately I've been waking up in the morning feeling like I haven't taken a good breath since I went to bed. I'm pretty sure it's just the heat, I don't think I'm getting sick or anything...is there anything else I can do other than live in the AC all day and use my albuterol like it's my job? Does the heat bother you guys as much? If so, what do you do for some relief?

My breathing is usually pretty bad during the summer due to all of the heat and humidity. I however do not have A/C so I really suffer through the summer. The only thing I can suggest is drink a ton of water. I find that I'm able to breath a bit better and am able to clear things out when I've got water in me. I usually drink about 8-10 bottles a day, if more. I also increase my physio from 2x a day to 3x a day when I'm feeling even shorter of breath.

I am LOVING it. Even during my worst times last year I prefer it over the cold. The only problem with it is that I cant do much. So it gives me an excuse (LIKE I NEED ONE HA HA) to sit on the porch & watch nature. Yesterday & today it will be in the 90's with HIGH humidity, but I am not complaining. If I start feeling like it I remember that damn bitter winter that I despise. I do have to be careful because if I choose to do something I am more worried about hemoptysis kicking in then losing my breath. Granted there is no skipping any nebs on days like this, but still worth it. I will say its not the greatest for sleeping & hubby keeps threatening me with putting an AC in the bedroom, but we dont need it. If I kept our windows in the house closed our house stays cool, but I love them open (yes I know bad for the allergies, but mental health matters also) & the season is so short that we deal with it!

I absolutly HATE the hot weather. I can't breath in it. Sometimes even staying inside doesnt releave it. I have no idea on how to releave it, except like you said do the albuteral like its your job and increase phsyio.

it's kicking my @$$ like never before. i used to be able to tolerate the heat (growing up in SoCal where it's around 100 all the time) but this year, it's just killing me. I drink a ton of water, but I'm wondering if I should switch to Gatorade for the elecrolytes. the only thing that's keeping me going is the fact that next year at this time hopefully I'll be in grad school up in cool San Francisco!!!!

I have a very low tolerance to the heat. My airconditioner is on every year by April. I can't stand being hot, it makes me feel short of breath.

If I am somewhere wherer there isn't any AC I drink constantly. Iced tea, Gatoraide, water, etc.

What seems to be better for CFers???

Hot and dry or hot and humid??

In El Paso we are hitting 104 degrees out, but we have no humidity.

I hate a little bit of hold and of cold. Really bitter cold makes it painful to breathe. Really hot makes me feel like passing out, and just wears me down.

As for what to do in the hot weather... No idea. Heh. I tend to live in the AC. It's kind of sad, but I only go out when I have somewhere specific I need to go. Mike's house doesn't have AC, and basically, whenever I spend time with him (especially during the summer), it's here at my house. He knows I prefer the AC, and hell, it's more comfortable for him too. You could always invent a fishbowl for your head with AC in it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I like the warm weather to an extent. The main problem I have is with my blood sugar. It drops much faster when I am out and doing things in the hot weather,
I have grown up in FL so it doesn't bother me too much. I love hot and humid over hot and dry any day of the week. The drier the weather the harder time I have breathing. I also tend to cough up blood streaked sputum when the weather is dry. I have been adjusting back to the heat here though - I have been spending more time inside this summer so far cause I have been sick and in the hospital - in a few weeks it won't be as bad once I start going outside more.

Right now here in FL, after Alberto, the humidity has been KILLING ME! I can't stand it! So I either stay inside and read/play video games, or go outside and enjoy the nice 86 degree pool water. Other than that, if I stay outside for too long, I'll start to dehydrate and get heat sickness really fast.

I do not know how I live in South Florida but your body does acclimate eventually. when I had a hard time breathing, I stayed in doors.

I would love to move out of state one day and I would love to go out west but then there is snow and rain all the time.

Celing Fans help a lot.

I like the hot. I'm real sensitive to cold weather which makes me cough. Hot and humid is harder to breathe though. But if I had the choice I would take it over the cold.

The best weather I have ever been is 10 degrees F in Salzburg, Austria this past winter. I have never been able to breath so deeply. The cold weather and the lack of pollution was just heaven on earth.

I do great in San Francisco as well. The ocean air with the cold temp is just paradise.

I'm a fish out of water in LA and I can't wait to leave.
