The Vest

Ive been reading every post about vests every time i get the chance, and was blown away about how young the children are that are getting the vest. so for months now ive been asking my CF doc and his PT therapist for a vest for Aidan, who just turned TWO in December, and theyve shot me down every time saying hes too young and too small, for the vest. that it will launch him accross the room. he's weighing in at over 25 pounds and some change(that was three months ago). i just read about an 8 month old getting a vest. how do i enforce this that i want the vest and get it? do i have to enforce it as his mom and not take no for an answer? make them size him and order it in front of me? seriously, i feel like there making me feel like a crazy parent who doesnt know what shes talking about or what her child can handle. has anyone had trouble with this too? i got a check up coming on Jan 24 and want to get this into motion. any suggestions would be great. thanx

Can't wait to see the responses you get from your post!

We too have been asking about the vest. Heck, the last time Briceton was in the hospital (about 4 months ago) the PT said she had a vest that was his size we could try...........but the pulmo doc shot that idea down very quickly!

I don't know why exactly they are so against the smaller ones using the vest, but dang I wish they would tell me so I "might" stay off their case!

By the way Briceton is 18 months old and when I first came to this site 18 months ago, it seemed like 18 months was the prime time for getting the vest.....from what I remeber anyway! Who knows...................................

Elizabeth and Sherry - Hi. Parker is about 9 1/2 mo. but I was shocked that he was going to be able to get one. . . . this one is the one from Hil ROm, the actual Vest. I would push. . . only because the pamphlet that the coordinator gave me said that it's like 3 times as effective (if you want, I can probably scan the pamphlet if anyone wants)
Let me know if there's any info I can help you guys with.
Sorry to hear of the troubles. . . maybe I should have thought before I posted, I was just excited and wanted to tell the world.

Joys are great things to share here, so please don't be sorry for sharing! information is power! and you have given the "vest frustrated" parents here more ammunition for the next clinic appointment and vest disscusion.

I have taken several things to my clinic appointments from what other people have posted or answered for me (that I had never heard of before!- so frustrating!) and my doctor has agreed to let me try them, and my fev1 has gone up 9% in 9 months!

Maybe you could get your doctors to agree to a "trial" period? Just a thought...Kind of a "put up or shut up" and gimme a vest sort of thing, lol.
