Anyone gotten a dog certified as a therapy dog? So that you can have him or her wtih you in the hospital at times while you are admitted?

Is it possible?

I don't know much about it, but if you had a legal service animal, the hospital couldn't tell you no (except in some areas where they watch for immunosuppressed patients).

Yikes! I already have to watch out for nurses who wear
perfume/cologne and now I have to be on my guard for a DOG in the
hospital? What an upper-respiratory nightmare that would
produce.<br>

All the more reason for me to stay on top of things and avoid the
hospital at all costs.

I havent heard of patients themselves bringing their therapy dogs in, but both my local hospital & where my CF clinic is have therapy dogs come in. I love it when they do. I have a dog & when I am admitted I miss her terribly so its a definite benefit to me. I am an animal lover anyway tho!

our puppy is allowed in the hospital whenever! He is 6 months old and has a special pass. In Mike's past 2 admissions he comes in with me all the time. We went yesterday!

London only comes in Mike's room. Although many of the kids stop me in the halls on my way there. Anyway, I think Mike would die before he avoided dogs. I guess different people have different priorities. Happiness is his.

I would LOVE to bring my dogs into the hospital when I'm there, but I have a feeling that's a big "No Way!"

Kate, love your newfie story! Lucky duck.

Hmmm I've been in the hospital for almost 2 weeks now and have seen about 10 dogs come through here. Of course all are "certified" therapy dogs. A lot of them are golden retrievers, there are a few newfy's that stop it. I love them. They double check and make sure they can come into the rooms before they even come near.
My mom and dad are bringing up my Dog tomorrow..she is missing me really bad. They say she is acting so sad since I've been in here. We are going to have her in the courtyard tomorrow then try and sneak her upstairs. My nurse says to put her in a bag..she is like 35 pounds though.
I miss her a ton!
