A lot of the stuff you hear about pseudomonas is somewhat outdated. Pseudomonas used to be sort of like b. cepacia - they didn't have a good cocktail of drugs to treat it, and so getting it usually meant that your life would be shortened. But that was a long time ago! Like a previous poster said, now almost all the new drugs they have are specifically for pseudomonas. My clinic growing up actually always sort of "assumed" you had it, because it is so common - even before I cultured it regularly, I was treated for it when I went into the hospital. Most people, in my experience, don't have a huge change after they start culturing it. The prognosis for this bacteria has changed a TON over the last three decades.

My son got B. Cepacia last summer at 8mos and Pseudomonas this summer, 20mos. We have since tested neg for B. Cepacia. Just getting drugs for Pseudomonas now. Both times I was crushed. This makes me feel better. Thanks for sharing.
