Thrush?

I have been on Tobi for 2 weeks and am just finishing up 2 weeks of prednisone (done on Wed).

This afternoon/evening I have a white coating on my tongue and my whole mouth is very irrirated with bumps, etc. I think I have a slight fever going as well. It seemed to hit me pretty fast tonight.

I plan to call my CF doctor first thing in the morning-but this sucks! I haven't been that great at taking my acidophilous....I just took 3 pills tonight and am eating my 2nd yogurt. I can't sleep because my mouth is feeling irritated.

Does this sound like thrush to you? Should I just start on anti-thrush meds tomorrow (after calling my CF doctor)?? I a hoping he will just call them in for me and that I won't have to go in and see a doctor locally who really has no idea about CF......

I am guessing if it is thrush, you could go see a local doctor and get a prescription for it.

Whenever I suspect thrush, my doctor wants to see me and be sure. So the last time I had to actually go in, just for him to look at my throat...it was a waste (my clinic is an hour away both ways). You could ask when you call if it would be ok to see your local doctor if your clinic won't call it in for you.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sounds like thrush, but go to an MD just to make sure. I have thrush all the time due to the Advair I take, so to keep that away I swish and swallow Nystatin daily.

Thanks you guys! I am going to call first thing - as soon as they open. I couldn't sleep much last night because of it-ugh. I ate 2 yogurts and took a bunch of acidophilous-but its not doing much....I think I am too far behind the thrush and its going to take awhile! This will teach me to keep up with my acidophilous! Usually I can feel it coming on and can beat it with the acidophilious-but not this time! I'm not sure if its because I am on the prednisone as well (for almost 2 weeks)....but am guessing that has something to do with it.

Prednisone is what ALWAYS does it for me. Anymore, I ask for a prescription for diflucan AND nystatin when the doc says "prednisone".

Sounds like a nasty case of thrush to me. If it's that bad, I would try and do like I do, ask for both. The nystatin never really works well on it's own for me, especially if I already have a rampant thrush infection. Both, together, seem to keep yeast at bay...everywhere. The diflucan seems to relieve the thrush SYMPTOMS pretty quickly for me (after the first dose). The nystatin then just will KEEP working after the course of diflucan is up while I'm still on prednisone/IVs/etc. Usually, just a three or five day dose of diflucan will give some relief and "kick" the nystatin into better working (and longer lasting) gear.

Good luck, feel better soon!

Well they called in 2 pills for me-one to take now and one to take in 2 weeks if I need it.

Each pill is 150mg - I am assuming that is strong if 1 pill is supposed to knock it out?

I am also taking tons of acidophilous and yogurt to try to get rid of this.

Ugh. That's waht I get for not taking my acidophilous for awhile.

Hey Marci,

Thrush can be so annoying.. I just went through the same thing. , wasn't taking my probiotics & think I had thrush .. I called my dr & asked them to call in a script for Nystatin Swish & Swallow. It usually does the trick for me.. Hope you are feeling relief by now ..

Take care <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0"> joni
