Tickly cough!

Any of you ever experience really bad random tickly coughs that last for days? I get them ever so often where ill be up all night coughing my brains out and it's more annoying than anything else...I usually wait a day or two to see if it goes itself but end up giving in and going to get checked out where the answer is almost always 'your chest sounds clear' it's just viral and they give me tablets to help me sleep etc nothing really works and as I write this I'm coughing like mad it's not like a coughing fit its just a nagging cough that won't stop and will keep me up all night! Do any of you experience anything similar to this and do you know of anything that may help? Thank youuuu!

Jellybaby,

You may want to try Menthol cough drops - Halls, CVS, and I'm sure there are others.

I had that type of nagging dry unproductive cough for much of my life. For years I lived on Dimetane-DX to be able to sleep. Then I found that Menthol cough drops brought almost the same relief.

I still use the cough drops at times when I'm on Colistin since it often brings back that dry cough.

I hope this helps you get some relief.

Before I realized (OK, ADMITTED lol) that I am allergic to wine, I would get congested after drinking it. Now that I've cut out wine, my cough has gone away. Removing the irritant got rid of the cough. Look around you. What is in your environment that is causing this? Do you have any allergies? Always good to check.

Hope you feel better :)

Post nasal drip? I get it too when allergies flair as others have suggested.

I think this type of cough is quite common. My doctor gave me tesslon pearls or benzonatate for it. I think mine gets worse with allergies but the meds help. I have a standing script for them and I just take them when I need them. Nothing over the counter worked for me. Well, nothing I could function on.

My son (also DDF508) has this almost all the time. Much is allergies related and meds help a bit but not entirely. It's frustrating as heck as he just needs to stop coughing long enough to sleep! We also use menthol cough drops like Halls. One other help is elevating the head of your bed a little bit, you can put your bed's legs on small blocks of wood to keep things steady. Just that little incline seems to help with the post nasal drip and such. Good luck!
