1] How long did it take before you started to see the normal blood sugars
Such as mid ninties I still haven't seen an endo yet but with just taking the lantis and not being on any steroids I haven't seen anything that is above 200 and that's only within say an half hour or so of eating...
My averages are
for 7 days before a meal is 95
for 14 days it is also 95
for 30 days it's 115...all normal...
now for the afters
for 7 days 131
for 14 days 135
for 30 days 153
my highest on my meter is 342 the day I got it in the hospital...lowest in there was that one the 342...since my release I have been better much much with numbers but I haven't missed a lantus or any suger checks...
usually I don't use the short acting insulin because my sugar levels drop soooo fast that within an hour if I was at 200 no I'm at 60 litterally and I don't like feeling like I'm about to pass out and to the fish outa wata flippity flop on the floor lol ...so I like the lantus I would like a very fast acting insulin...
not so old like humulin r which when I was 12 they thought I had type 1 diabetes and I didn't agree afte listening and taking insulin and while I was in the hospital wound up doing the fish flippity flop in the hospital and did it 1 time at home....not a fun feeling and don't want to repeat it that is why I don't like humilin r it's not accurate...
What insulin do you use,
I have a friend...my wife's best friend that has type 1 and she has told me that there are better and more effective insulins out there but I'm just trying to educate myself so when I go to the endo on dec 28th I'm not scratching my head in the office...instead I'm actually sounding like I'm on top of mycare.
Please advise me on what you all have been thru, ur advice and or criticism.
What are the snack foods u eat...and how do u count carbs...
How many units of humilun r to how many carbs I think I have an idea but am willing to listen....
Thanks for the help to all who are willng to respond.

HI Josh
My son has an insulin pump, minimed. We've found that this really helps to stabilise the BGL's. Before the pump Sam had Novarapid (short acting) and Lantus (long acting).

The pump uses Nova rapid, and delivers small pulses of measured insulin throughout the 24hrs, in addition to bolus doses for meals and snacks. they reckon it is the nearest thing to a propoerly functioning pancreas...

We use the 'exchange' method, one exchange = 30gms of carbs. I'm sorry I cant help further because we use a different BGL measure, and I'm not sure how to equivilate (is that even a word?) it to yours....normal is basically 4-7.

I am still waiting for mine to level out as well. I still have a few highs and lows. I do better when I count carbs and keep my stress levels down. I have taken all sugary foods-- cookies, cakes and such-- out of my diet and things got a bit better.

I have only had give myself insulin a handful of times (sugars pre-meal over 150). Normally my sugars are low pre-meal.

I have just begun this process so things might change.

Stay in communication with your endo. They are a valuable resource.

Josh I check my sugars just before and two hours after meals. Half an hour after the meal is probably too soon for the food to metabolize and have it's major impact on your BG. My endo recommended that I should be 90 - 150 before a meal. I take Novolog fast acting and Lantus as my basal at bedtime. (I wonder if you are giving yourself too much fast acting for the carbs you eat and bottoming out). The medtronic minimed continuous glucose monitor helps me monitor the sugars continually and keeps me from going low. I count my carbs with the assistance of the 'Calorie King;" it is a great little portable book with tons of nutrition info. That's all ... good luck!
