??? to the Moms with CF

A couple of us were comparing notes about our kids. We noticed that constipation or being prone to constipation was a noticable relation with them. I am curious to know how many other Moms with CF have noticed that their kids are prone to constipation. What is your opinion about it being connected to being a carrier? I havent investigated anything to see if there is any documentation on this. Just running it past you!

Good question Melissa. It will be interesting to see the results of this inquiry. As far as my family...I have three children and they have never been prone to constipation but then again constipation is not a problem that I have either.

Melissa,
As you know I don't have CF, but I am a carrier. Since we found out about Weston I have looked for signs like I am the only person in my famiy with asthma. My husband has bowel problems (more diarrhea than constipation though). His sister and brother just got tested to see if they were carriers. His sister has severe asthma (she was negative) His brother also has bowel problems again more along the lines of going too much (he was also negative).
I do remember having problems with constipation when I was young, but not as much in adulthood. I think it all depends. I look for signs in Ella as well to see if she will carry the gene.

Both of my children have constipation issues. I always wondered if it was being exposed to the enzymes in utero???

my son did quite a bit when he was younger. I had to give him a fleet enema more than once - yuk for both of us! I don't know if he does so much now, but
i wonder sometimes. At 7 it's hard to know a lot about his bowels.

i wonder if this would be carrier related or more diet related - how do you all cook at home? i know I don't worry about fat intake and though
i cook healthy meals, we eat pretty much whatever i want - which may mean more fatty foods in our diets - good for us but not so much our kids. whaddya think?

This idea sounds logical, but even when Jazz was just on formula as an infant she had it. Tho I dont know how much fat was in the formula so I guess the idea is still feasable! Any other ideas or input?
