hey guys!

I know there is no right or wrong answer to this, and I'm not asking because I want someone else to decide if I should quit my part-time job and stick solely to SSDI, but I was just wondering...when did you know it was time to quit? Did you even know or did it just sort of happen and you realized a new/different job was not in your best interest? What exactly influenced your decision to quit, was it health-related or something else? Has anyone here quit for a while only to gain some strength (or interest, another opportunity, etc) to get another job later?

Just curious. Thanks! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

when I wasn't able to return to my baseline pfts and my life felt like all I was doing was my to do list. Every second of my day was scheduled and when even the littlest thing went off schedule my stress level went through the roof. As the captain of my family's ship I was worried I was going to run us aground. It was a family decision.

I was able to work full time 7 years and then I went to part time for 6 mos and stopped. Part of my decision was that if I'd worked part time for very long I would have started to negatively impact my annual SSDI amount by reducing my 10 year look back work credits.

I still work part time. I work one day a week, I only work about 7 hours a day. I can't add any more days to my work week because I have a very high hourly rate because I am a nurse, I also get sick if I do work more hours a week.

I can not quit working because I could not keep myself afloat on just SSDI.

jennifer,

what, may I ask, then do you plan on doing when you can't work one day a week - or what DO you do when you miss several one days of your weeks due to hospital? I'm just wondering b/c I, like you, don't think I could keep myself going on just my SSDI...I would financially drown in a heartbeat! :/

thanks!

LOL that my friend is a very good question. I own my own house right now, or I will in 27 more years!!! So I have a mortgage and all that jazz so I need to make it. I eventually think my mom and I will get a mother/daughter house in the next five or so years.

I have really bad asthma too, so I am very limited to where I can work and what I can do. I most likely will when I can't work at the hospital any more look for an at home job that I can do one day a week, I think even pretty sick I could manage that.

I worked fulled time for about 9 years. I have owned my house (Mortgage) for about 6 years now. I have never been married so I have no back-up income. I guess since I was doing well, that didn't really scare me at all. This past year my health has declined and I would push myself to go to work because I had to pay the bills. Finally this last hospitalization, I almost died. So that is when I realized I couldn't do it anymore. Everyone kept telling me to cut back but I was money hungry. I went and applied for disability and I don't know how they expect someone to live off of it. I now have my house up on the market to sell and I am planning on moving back in with the parents. I feel like a failure but I guess I am lucky to even have that option. I guess my advice would be to work as long as you can do it as long as your safe about it. Don't push yourself so much that your health declines because of it. It's just not worth it!
