TOBI and COLOMYCIN(colisitin)

I do colistyn every other month and had the results you describe only with TOBI. I actually find colistyn helps me cough a ton of stuff up, which I don't think its supposed to do cause its an antibiotic, but I think the "foaming" actually helps loosen things up for me so I do feel better on months I'm on it. I don't get tight at all with coli, but got progressively tighter and worse when I was on TOBI over a couple of years.

Oh, and isn't generic, by law, supposed to be the "equaivalant" to name brand? I also used X-Gen, but have used the brand the base gave out a couple years ago and couldn't tell a difference. I was under the understanding that generic, in order to be substituted, has to be a nearly identical formula.

I know this isn't the case with enzymes, however, which must be name brand cause if they're not, that could cause problems. That is the ONLY name brand med I take (besides pulmo since there is no generic). Everything else from Azithro. to albuterol I take generic when possible.

Im thinkin for my coly month i am just going to up my ventolin nebs and even throw in a few ordinary saline nebs to keep things loose!

is colymycin a different med?? why would they put some CFers on colistyn and some on colymycin (if they're different)... The CF service pharmacy give me "Colistemethate" USP, but I always just call it "coli" or "colistyn". I didn't know there was a difference between that and colymycin... Do you mix colymycin when you take it?

I don't think there is any difference in Colimycine or Colistin. I used to always get Colimycine and then after years and years I got Colistin. Might have just been a different company.
I used Colimycine for years before I had my tx. I think I used it for 15 years untill on or two of my pseudo's began showing some signs of resitance to it. This was just before my transplant. I think they do show up sensitive now again. I haven't been on Colimycine nebs since 3 weeks post tx.

I don't think I ever felt tight after my nebs... Not that I can remember anyway.
