Let me start off by saying my lung function is pretty good, about 95% at my last PFT (FEV1). My doctor started me on Tobi today (inhaled) because of my recurrent infections that I have been having. I took my first dose this morning and have been coughing up a bunch of gunk from what feels like deep down. It feels like I really loosened a lot of stuff up in there-just from inhaling the Tobi one time. For others-did it happen this fast for you? Or do you think it is just a fluke?

Hey Marci,

The first couple days that I start my Tobi I tend to cough a lot. I think it's a combination of the tightness (side effect) and the mucus coming up. I think you will find that you will be coughing less in a couple days and you will start feeling better. Hopefully you can stick with it and hopefully it will work well for you in the end.

So far I am tolerating it just fine-but I have only had one dose! About to take my other one in an hour or so. I haven't been coughing more really-its just that when I do cough it is coming from deep down and getting gunk up that wouldn't normally come up. I didn't feel too tight afterwards-thank goodness! I did do my albuterol about 15 minutes (just one puff) before the Tobi.
I did notice my throat was sore (felt like I was getting a sore throat) when I would cough deeply, for about 2-3 hours after I inhaled the Tobi.
Thanks for the reply Leah!

Yes, this always happens with me as well...The antibiotic is working its magic in breaking up the gunk and now you are coughing it up. I find this also happens whenever I am on IV antibiotics, the first few days, I have horrible lung sounds and am coughing junk up non stop, after a few days, it does get better and the secretions decrease as well as thin out. The sore throat occasionally happens with me, but mostly it is irritated and my voice is hoarse.
Hope the rest of the treatment gets better, I think it will
