Tobi OK w/ known neomycin reaction?

Greetings, I am close to starting on Tobi but my pharmacist, the drug's manufacturer Chiron and my common sense, tell me to proceed with extreme caution. I have had a severe reaction to Neomycin ear drops, ie. swollen and "burned" skin of the ear and surrounds. Neomycin and Tobi are both aminoglycosides. I called my doctor about my concerns and she told me that I should have no problems with the inhaled Tobi....what say ye out there? Thank you so much. Paul

take it and see what happens. sometimes people only get reactions from medicines through certain routes. im allergic to IV colistin but i can inhale it with no problems. keep an eye on things though.

Thanks for the input Kylie, this is what the manufacturer of the drug Tobi suggested, try it but only while at the doctor's office. This way I would have access to emergency treatment, should I have an adverse reaction. The downside to this is that if it does to my lungs what the neomycin did to my skin....I'll need a lung transplant AND a new doctor! "Trust, but verify" Paul in Arizona

thats a very good idea. they do that with iv courses here. the first dose, even if youve had the medicine before, is given at the hospital. i highly doubt it will burn your lungs. *cross fingers* hehe. hmm how can i put your mind at ease. take chemotherapy. if it comes in contact with skin it will burn, but if put into your veins it doesnt. different routes for medicines have different effects. hope everything goes well!

Thanks Kylie, the comparison to the chemotherapy treatments is very interesting and one that I was not aware of. Appreciate your help. Paul
