tonsils removed

My daughter has had tonsilitis (?) twice in the last four weeks both times she was prescribed antibiotics and it seems to clear it up. When should we consider having her tonsils removed? Is this common with CF and is it helpful to have them removed?

Your ENT should let you know if they need to be removed. Usually only after repeated infections or if they are big. My daughter, Anna, had hers removed because they were extremely large and she snored like a guy. He wondered how she could eat. She never had any problems there. Rachel still has hers.

We just had our visit with the ENT for my son's tonsils, and he said that if they are not causing any problems they leave them alone. Maybe trying to find out what is causing the inflammation would be a first step. Are your daughter's sinuses or ears infected? Remeber that your ears, nose and throat are all connected so infection in one place can cause inflammation in the others. Surgery should be a last resort after all other options are exhausted. Our babies go through enough.

Well, that's me two cents! Hope things get better.

I do know of a person whose child recently had tonsils and adenoids removed. As well as some clean out sinus surgery. The tonsils were huge and interferred with her ability to swallow, so she ate like a bird. A coworker's child had similar issues and once his were removed he ate like crazy. Was afraid of choking prior to that.

Again your ent could tell you if it's something that could be done.
