Tonsils

So, yesterday I had my tonsils taken out. I feel pretty out of it, but I can already tell a difference in my breathing. But I'm loving my husband taking care of me. I need some sleep now...

good night

I had mine out several years ago when I was in my 30s. Wished I'd had it done a LOT sooner -- I could instantly breathe so much better. Keep up on your pain meds, drink, drink drink lots of water, suck on ice chips to keep your throat hydrated. Waking up in the middle of the night with your throat feeling "stuck together isn't fun". Don't LOOK at your throat -- it's nasty. Made me weak in the knees.

Another thing that may or may not happen... Around Day 7 or 8 of recovery. You may develop ear pain. All part of the healing process -- tonsils, eustacian tubes all interconnected. Just be prepared. Nobody warned me about it. Here I thought I was on the road to recovery and bam -- got knocked for a loop and DH thought I was faking and being a wimp. Heating pad/water bottle on the head helped a LOT!

Also -- anything hot (warm) or carbonated. Does NOT feeling good. I think I survived on ice chips, luke warm soup with saltines mushed in it and cold milk. Things will probably taste a lot different too. Cauterization does a number on your taste buds.

Oh, and for added entertainment. You'll find that since you have so much more room in your throat, you'll need to relearn how to swallow when drinking beverages. Not as much control. Nothing like having milk shoot out of your nose the first few times you drink. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
