Took the first Step...scheduling port surgery!

Don't worry. I thought that getting my port(s) was really cool. Conscious sedation and I talked to the surgeon about investing most of the time since I interned in trading for an investment bank over the summer. It makes gettig IVs so much easier too.

Right on to the port!! Wish I hadn't waited so long to get mine. Even if you use it only once a year, that's one less PICC line, right?

I personally didn't think of port placement as "surgery" so much as a "routine outpatient procedure" that I wouldn't get to remember after the fact. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I didn't get to choose my exact model, but I knew going in it would be single lumen and what side and generally what placement. We basically avoided my left side because of backpack carry habit. I'm a guy, so there wasn't a lot of concerns beyond that.

Just prayed for you! Ports allow you to be so much more proactive with treatment especially with the MRSA -- I think Tiffany's first port lasted around 7 years. Hope all goes well!

Good luck! From what I hear everyone who got a port was glad they did! Tough decision but you can do it!!!! Stay strong and feel good!<br>

I will be praying for you also. After I get back from my honeymoon my doctor wants me to get a port and I just can't bring myself to make the appointment. I am having such problems with it. Hopefully, I will be like you and start accepting it. Good luck and I will be anxious to hear how you like it

My 6 year old son w/cf recently had a port fitted & as much as we were traumatised by the whole thought... it was the best thing we could have done, the operation was pretty routine as far as I was made aware, he was in & out in hardly any time at all & he is absolutely fine, his iv's started almost immediately after it was put in & he's doing very well with it... you wouldn't know he had it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> xx Will make our 3 monthly iv's go so much smoother... fewer needles & no stinging <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Best thing we done xx<br>Stay strong, and think to the future xx<br>x Shaz x<br>

You'll get great pain killers to take home-don't leave the hospital without them and...use them wisely.
I asked if the surgeon would pierce my belly button while I was under. He declined. I was bummed. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
