Transplant Costs

Mike has medicare. They would have covered everything in Boston. They would not pay for him to be dual listed, so before he went through that processin Cleveland, he was put on his mom's insurance, Blue Cross. (not a problem, because he has a chronic illness and was considered disabled). We also have a foundation. We set up one with one of the transplant associations but also have donated money put aside for immediate costs (the associations reimburse rather than give you money up front.) Anyway, don't worry too much about the money part right now but it's good to start thinking about it. Good luck!!

If you have an HMO medicare and more plan, you will be covered within your state at the nearest transplant facility If you have Medicare without an HMO, then you can go to different centers within the USA and there will be no additional letters from doctors written.

I believe if you have an HMO you can still relocate but need additional approval from the center before even going there but there might be an additional doctors referrel and many necessary steps taken to get you there. I believe the insurance term would be out of suitcase cost. It is a strange name that is why I remembered it<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The fact that you are very interested in Transplant will impress your doctors and that will factor you in as a good candidate. The tx team looks at all aspects of the person besides their physical state.
