transplant question

Hi everyone. I was on the phone this afternoon talking to my transplant coordinator up at the Cleveland clinic. I'm kind of jumpy about this whole idea, and even though I've talked to my docs, parents, etc. about it I still have a lot of questions and what ifs. I would love any comments, suggestions, etc. about how to deal with the transplant, what it's actually like (that would be helpful!), etc. If you've been to the Cleveland clinic, that would be even better!!! My email is emdeardo@yahoo.com if you'd like to get in touch with me personally. Thanks so much...I'm really kind of nervous about this. Emily

i can't help you with that, cos i haven't had a transplant myself... but i have a question: how did the doctors decide that you need a transplant? i mean, what were the criteria [if any]?

I'm a bit different from the general critieria. My doc wants me to get a transplant b/c I have a way of contracting weird bugs that really knock out my system, and I tend to recontract them pretty frequently. My FEV1s and o2 levels probably aren't enough to qualify me (I don't use oxygen...my stats are about 95-96, and my FEV is now about 32, 35), but the fact that I get weird things probably is.

i see. good luck with it, girl i was asking because i could never track down a pattern in the criteria, and it's sort of a "how low can you go" question. i've heard about having FEV1 of 30%, but nothing else. o2 levels of 95-96 are awesome i have the same levels, it seems to be the only area i don't have problems with

Hi, Living Lung Lobar is what you are referring to.For living lobar, you need 2 living people to each donate a lobe. You have 3 lobes on your right side and 2 on the left. The donors do not donate an entire lung. The donors have to be in good health, stand physical and mental testing and also be the right age, height and the same blood type as the recipient.Hope that helps.Joanne Schumluckylungsforjo@aol.com
