transplant question

I'm not to the point of needing a transplant yet. Probably looking at one in a few years, though.

I was talking to my mom about it and she said that if you have a "lung transplant" you also have to get a new heart, too. Basically, she says a lung transplant involves taking out the lungs and heart and replacing them with a new pair, you can't have new lungs without a new heart.

Is this true?

Not all "lung transplants" involve transplanting the heart as well as the lungs, some Cf's have heart problems from the strain of having chronic lung disease for so long, others the heart may not be effected...

I only needed lungs when I had my transplant

I think it depends on where you are. I am not positive about this, but I want to say I read something about another country (I am in the U.S) preferring to do heart-lung transplant when they were performed, but that is not always the case.

I was at risk for needing a heart and lung transplant, but only received a double lung. My reasoning and condition was as mentioned - I had started to develop heart problems associated with my cruddy lungs.

That is not true to my knowledge in all cases. Like fr3ak said, some need both heart and lungs because of the strain placed on the heart but not always.

However it is always a DOUBLE lung tx and that is what I got and am waiting for again.
