Kylie,

the guy I have heard of/referring to is in Melbourne, and I think he is 16 years out

I know a good few post tx CFs that are past the 10 year mark and many more approaching it...

Kinda goes to show statistics arent everything...

i wonder if perth will ever be as good as the eastern states centres. *scratches head* they havent done any cfers yet but the people they have transplanted are doing well.

freak, that was what I was told by someone for Duke only...not everywhere. I did word it wrong. It is great to know there are ppl out there who are so many years post transplant. 16 yrs is amazing. Is that with just one transplant? What center did they go to?

Joanne, I was told this information from a CFer that recently went to get evaluated....well that's what her mom told me (we have different bugs so we stay away from each other). From what I understand from the CFers mom, the CFer refused getting a transplant (personal choice, but their mom said part of it was with the stats I gave u, maybe the CFer told something different because of refusing...I dont know, I hope not). They didnt want to be recovering for 1 yr. (maybe the mom got that mixed up with moving to Raleigh and doing rehab type stuff for a year). My doctor told me about the 50/50 5 yrs out; but that was 3 yrs ago when I was told to start thinking about what I want. I hope things are better now, specially since Duke is suppose to be one of the biggest/best hospitals. I am relieved that you know someone who is 10-11 yrs post transplant from Duke. Makes me feel better. I will start doing research now. But yes, those stats did not sound good to me either. That's why I said they could be wrong. When I go to Duke in Dec...I just might ask (if I remember) for numbers. Get it first hand from my doc and not through the grapevine so to speak <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">.
