Treatments

Hi,

OK, so today I got sidetracked and am just now sitting down to do my morning nebs and vest (its 4 pm!)... I usually don't feel that plugged up or SOB when I miss a treatment or delay it until later in the day. Is this normal? Does anyone else feel like many days they don't need to do their treatments or feel they can put them off until much later? Granted, I cannot go workout or do anything too active when I haven't done them as then I WOULD feel SOB and "tight", but for just sitting around and making lunch and walking to the mail box, etc. I just don't feel the need for treatments most days. Anyone else feel this way?

P.S. Don't worry, I usually do my treatments within an hour or two of getting up, but its days like today when I go so long without them that I wonder if that's "normal".

Thanks,

If I miss my morning treatment I usually feel it by early afternoon & have a problem mid/late afternoon. I cant get away with no treatments at all anymore & some days one or two isnt enough. It varies with weather etc.

Well I know if I dont do my treatments ill still feel fine, but I know that even though I feel fine, doesnt mean Im not, Ive learned how important those treatments are. When I dont do them then I know that Im just hurting myself in the long run, so their are days when I do my treatments a little late on the weekends but I make sure that both treatments get done by the end of the day, EVERYDAY. Thats how my attitude used to be like until my very first picc line. I use to think that I was healthy enough that I didnt need to do the treatments but what did I know, nothing, it just caused me to have a line in my vien.

I couldn't agree more! I rarely let it get this late.... And, I will stay up until 2 am just to get in my second treatment. I won't skip cause of this. I haven't missed a treatement in several months, and even then its NEVER the vest and VERY VERY RARELY (like once a year!) antibiotics or pulmozyme. I'm usually very very rigid about doing my treatments, but was surprised today when I didn't feel any ill-effects from NOT doing them until later.

I feel more clogged and I cough more thick stuff up, but its not like I can't breathe or anything. However, if I skip 2 days of inhaled meds I get sick. This happened when my machine broke while I was away-I had to go the rest of the trip on 1 albuterol puffer. Not good. But that wasn't in my control.
Honestly, I never skip an AM treatment, but occasionally a PM one.

When I was healthier I had less of a problem. Now I find that I have to do a treatment or like Mel said I can feel it within a few hours. If I don't do at least a morning and evening neb treatment and vest I pay for it. If I miss my morning dose I pay that afternoon I am more SOB and just run down. If I miss my evening dose I will be feeling crummy come morning time - I will wake up more congested.

I used to have the same thoughts of Oh Nothing happens if I miss a dose here or there - but those times passed long ago.

it depends on what kind of health phase i am in generally. sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes it does. when i am able to exercise most days for a long period of time, i can usually skip without too much repercussion. as i've gotten older, it definitly seems like i can't get away with as much skipping, though.

i think back to dr. warwick's comparison in the new yorker article of the odds of getting sick doing vs. not doing your treatments every day. along those same lines, i think of it like sleep: you can "catch up" on sleep when you've gone with not enough, but you can never really get all that sleep back.
