Trouble with bactrim?

I was briefly on IVs and was switched to oral bactrim. After five doses, I have been feeling unbelievably nauseous. Has anyone experienced this? i haven't taken bactrim since I was much younger so I don't remember this reaction. I was also on cipro last week and developed a rash - had never happened before.

Hi,

I am terribly allergic to Bactrim. I get covered in hives from head to toe. It's one of the only antibiotics that would work for my MRSA and PA, yet I can't use it. I had to stop after only 4 days. The doctors thought my throat would close! Sorry, no nausea. Cipro doesn't bother me at all.

The problem i have with Bactrim is headaches. When i start taking bactrim i get headaches almost every day i am on it, but the benefits outweigh the headaches for me as long as they dont get too bad. Maybe you need to take it with food to help with the nausea. I do remember you are supposed to take it with a lot of water.... i dont know if that would make any difference with the nausea but if you arent taking it with lots of water maybe it would help.

Hey there,

I have taken bactrim before as well as Cipro. With Cipro I ALWAYS get really bad nausea if I do not take the med with at the very least a small meal. As for Bactrim the last time I took it I was taking it every other day - on the days that I was NOT taking Zithromax - we were trying it out for MRSA treatment long term. I got very nauseous with it and I was only taking it every other day. Alotof antibiotics can cause nausea. Maybe try taking it at meal time or with a small snack of sorts and see if that helps with the nausea.

Take Care,
Lindsey

I am severly allergic to Bactrim too, I believe it is a Sulfa drug. I break out in hives from head to toe also, my fingers and lips swell, I hate the stuff!! No nausea though-that I remember.

I took bactrim when I was younger but then as a teen they gave it to me as they had a hundred times before and I kept vomiting it back on them. (of all things I've ever puked up the bactrim is still memorable it is awful on the return if you know what I mean). Anyway, thats when they decided I was done with Bactrim and I was never on it again. So for whatever thats worth there ya go. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have taken Bactrim for quite a long time now. No noticable problems, but quite honestly unless I go into an allergic shock or something. I do know that the terrible under the skin pain acne I get disappears as long as I am on it!
