Ugly mucus

Hi all, I coughed up something today that I wouldn't even call mucus, more a piece of brown matter, with a foul taste. Not liquid at all. I didn't know what it was, so I just threw it on the floor of the train I was on in disgust. But then picked it up again and put it in q tissue and showed my doctor. He said it might be fungus, but wasn't sure and as I feel ok overall and am not wheezy or feverish, but I am going to have bloodwork done. About more than a week ago I coughed up the same tasting mucus, it was liquid and brownish. Any ideas?

I have had three of those, if it's the same thing as yours. Mine was a HUGE plug, though. I felt mine in my chest for 3 days and was reluctant to get it out because at the time I was a huge bleeder, and was afraid there was loads of blood behind it. Anyway, long-story-short, when it finally did come up, I coughed for an hour until I thought my lung collapsed and then it popped out. The plug was the size of a raisin. No kidding. Then in the next 24 hours, I coughed up 2 more the same size, but they came up easier. I took pics and showed them to my doc and he was shocked. It was definitely a plug because I cut it in half, and there was yellow-color mucus inside. So GROSS.

I had to say, I did get a chuckle out of your response of throwing it on the floor in the train, and then picking it up in a tissue. (LOL, sorry). CF is gross sometimes, but it's not our choice. If I could choose what came out of my lungs, it would be all roses and rainbows. Oh well.

Than you for replying sugarcookie :) I am still not sure what it was. I have seen a photo of a aspergilloma (fungus ball) and it looked like what I coughed up. Have not coughed anything like that since. I culture aspergiligus fumigatus complex, and my doctor says that there is no need for treatment. I am still doing fine. Anyone have experience with this?Thx.
