Hey Lauren -
your doc was souding like an ass!

This is a big thing for you in so many ways, but I am proud of you for doing it. Having just (almost - 1 more dose!) finsihed my first ever round of IVs, I can say that you've made a good point: you have to do this to have the life you want.
As annoying as these 10 days have been, I am glad I did it - everyone is, I think. and you already know you'll feel the same way.

As far as germs, I try not to worry too much. Probably easier said than done, but I have found that I have to let that go a bit or else I can get absolutely obsessed. I mean, I do take precautions, but at some point, I just try to let it go. Maybe if you tell everyone you have MRSA they will be so wrried about you that they will be extra cautions <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> reverse psychology at work!

As far as meds, I had a hell of a time getting everyone on my schedule and what it boiled down to was just changing my times by pushng things back to get on my own schedule. Whether or not that was a great idea, I dunno, but I had to have my meds on a schedule that would work for my family and me or else there was no way home IVs would have worked.

Keep us posted and good luck!

Yeah he sounds like an ass. My doc is a very good doc and knows his mainstream stuff, but he too can also be an ass at times. You have two options. #1 Be polite and openly remind him that you are the patient, and he needs to respect you more. Without patients, he isn't a doctor. #2 Remind him in a pleasant way that nobody is beyond some form of an asswhooping when disrespecting someone else.

BTW I'm amazed I havent' had several battery charges on me in this life. I've always been a firm believer that you should nicely inform someone who is disrespecting you/being an ass towards you that you won't tolerate such behavior again. Then if they do it again, a good punch will get your seriousness across. I have found in life, that people won't do that crap to you again after you either do that to them, or they see you do it to others. Of course this is very antisocial, but so is their behavior as well. Of course this is off tangent because we all can't be punching a-hole docs, but you get my point. I grew up knowing that saying disrespectuful things to bikers wasn't good for your health, so it really irks me when people think they can be a total a-hole to you and they don't have to suffer any repurcushions.

If you will eventually be going hom on IV's yes you can bug the nurses to help you get on a schedule you will like. Its very hard to deal with that though. In my most recent hospitalization, I told them millions of times that I wanted my drugs at 6-2-10 and then 8-8, but then when you go to sleep, they will wait a while to hook you up. I had times where my drugs were an hour late and that was typically in the middle of the night. It was like they knew they could take advantage b/c i was sleeping. I tried not to let it bother me and when I went home it was really easy to get it on my schedule. If you are due for a med, you can kind of fluctuate the time no more than like an hour. So when I went home, I was due at 1 or something like that and waited till 2.

Yes it will be a good break for you. I always say I know when I am ready for my two week vacation. You are better able to sleep, you may not eat as well, but you dont have to worry about everyday things. Good luck!!
