Tomorrow my son, Isaac, will be tested for cf both sweat test and genetic (1200 mutation sequencing through Genzyme).
I have cf and my husband tested negative for 89 mutations. We were surprised to learn after we'd conceived that our child would have a 1 in 500 chance still of having cf even with the negative carrier test my husband received. This is due to the thousands of mutations that have been discovered since my husband was tested in '04.
We are proactively getting Isaac tested for cf. He is not showing any blatant signs but then many of us didn't at 10 weeks old. He is in the 95%ile for height and weight but has already had two colds. Is this a sign of cf?
It will be good to know one way or the other. Of course, I pray he doesn't have it but if he does I'll know just how to care for him. Here's some pictures. Oh and it will be fascinating to learn which mutation he got from me.
