Does anyone use bactrim for maintaince or short term use to help control or maintain pseudomonas. If so for what length of time have you used it and also what side effects have you experienced?

I use to use Bactrim during flare ups sometimes with Cipro or sometimes instead of depending on what my sputum cultures show. As things progressed for me I started alternating Bactrim (oral) & Tobi (neb) every other month. Now I am on Bactrim daily & alternating Tobi/Colistin montly...both via neb!

When this changes depends on how quickly I get back to my baseline (if I can get there completely) etc etc etc

I will be starting hypertonic saline soon & I am thinking about the oregano oil. Maybe if things go well I can ease up on some of the meds for a bit. That would be nice!

Reece was on Bactrim for a month, to treat reg.stahp & help control w/ MRSA. Didnt help much this time being he has a cold & cough right now. Got cold as soon as he stopped taking bactrim<img src="i/expressions/sad_eyes.gif" border="0"> Hopefully we can find something to nip it in the bud before it goes into his lungs!!

My daughter is on Bactrim prophylactically for MRSA(not pseudomonas). She has been on it for about 6 months so far. I give her acidophilus daily because of the antibiotic. So far I haven't seen adverse affects. We'll see. You have to very careful in the sun while on Bactrim so if it's sunny I slather on the sunscreen.

I love Bactrim.. I was on it for MRSA it is the only oral drug I have found that doesn't make me dizzy or feel weak and it still keeps me at my base..... It doesn't work that well when I am really sick, just for little things.. and mostly I like it after I come off IVS to take for a while to keep me healthy...

Damien is on bactrim now,and has been before. Staph is all we know of so far. The first time it was three times daily and with all hes other meds, he seemed to always have side affects.I was not told time frames for distribution either. and at first I didnt space meds out for Damien and I compiled 2 many drugs at once. He is on 1/2 tea 2x daily. And with Actigal every 8 hours 24/7,we take hours 11am and then at11pm. After a bottle. Now that I space and schedule hes meds and give them at the same time everyday,It made for a happier boy. It also makes Damien have watery stools, thats the only side affect that I noticed. When I asked the Nurse why the change in poo she said (antibiotics) can do that.So you might want to ask your doc about that. God bless.
