vacationing in Las Vegas

Hi I'm new to your board, as I usually go on our own board in the UK. I will be visiting Las Vegas for 12 nights at the end of April.

I always like to be prepared for any situations whilst I am away, so I was just going to ask, if I were to have any problems with my cf were would I be best going for medical help.

Also, if I had any problems with my eflow, would I be able to buy the parts locally, or are they only supplied on-line or via your hospitals.

We are looking to stay at the MGM Signature towers, just deciding if we should save some dollars & book with people who actually own them or if we should book direct with MGM hotel.

Last time we visited Vegas it was in the summer months & very hot, but I see the temps are only 13, not much warmer than England at the moment.

Have a good easter & thanks for any advice on Las Vegas.

Welcome to the group! It's always nice to have another member.

The biggest problem you're going to run into in Vegas is the SMOKE. It's everywhere. Indoors, outdoors. Yuck!

If anything happens health-wise, there's an adult CF center in Las Vegas at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Honsberg's number at the clinic is (702) 598-4411.

If you have problems with the eFlow, you'll have to call a PARI representative. eFlow LLC is located in Monterey, CA and they might be able to overnight parts to you, but I doubt it. Try giving them a call Phone: 831-372-3580
Fax: 831-372-3830.

You may want to bring a different style of nebulizer/compressor system than the eFlow, just to make sure you don't have a problem. You're much more likely to find a replacement neb cup or battery for other systems at a medical supply store.

Have fun!

Hey Chez,

Ironically enough, we just returned from Vegas this evening. One of my JR high girlfriends lives there and got married, so we went to see it. It's about 80F there right now, I managed to get burned in 1 hour yesterday afternoon.

I second the CF center in Las vegas, we have never had to utilize them, but I did call with some questions when we were planning our vacation just to make sure that if anything went wrong relating to Mark's CF, that they would be available to help.

I assume that you have all the equip. needed to convert to using our electrical system here?

Have fun on your trip!! We stayed at MGM too (although not the tower) and had a great time!

Hi Chez!
I just wanted to emphasize what lightNlife said - there is definitely an abundance of cigarette smoke EVERYWHERE in Vegas. My husband (31 w/ CF) and I went about 4 year ago and immediately left the next day because he cannot tolerate even small amounts of secondhand smoke - it causes him to hemoptysize (cough up blood) almost immediately. I know there are other CFs who do not have such a severe reaction, but for us, the smoke factor has dictated where we vacation for the last 5 years or so.

I would recommend a good breathing mask for at least those locations where the smoke seems thicker, it might help somewhat.

Happy Easter to you too!
Liz
