Hi everyone!
We are somewhat new to the vest. Our daughter is six years old, and I am wondering...how much do I push her to the max settings prescribed by the doc when she complains about it hurting? I don't want to hurt her, but I want her therapy to be effective. We do have the foam piece with a hole cut into it which HillRom sent her. What are your experiences with the vest and G-tubes or ports? Do you accommodate your kids when they complain about certain treatments that are tough? I know that over the long haul we have to apply some tough love, but I also know this disease can be a total drain on emotional strength sometimes, and that I need to use good judgment with her.

Thanks for any help you can give us,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I see you are new to this site (or at least signing in), I would like to welcome you! My son is also 6 with CF. As far as the Port and the G-tube, luckily he doesn't complain unless he is acessed. Then I just use the sponge and cut a hole in it and then I try to hold the vest away from that site while he is doing the treatment. It seems to help. He usually doesn't complain about the G-tube. I sometimes wonder if our settings are high enough though.

I noticed you also have a child with autism. My 5 yr old has a chromosome deletion with which she has lots of autistic traits. I found that interesting that you have the same issues with your kids.
