A long time ago my respirtory therapist told me not to. He gave me an order in which to take my meds in. He said doing the vest with your inhaled treatments isnt a good thing because you dont get all of the medicine as needed. Melissa was pretty much right, you dont get all of it like you should. Sometimes Ill cheat if Im pressed for time, for instance Ill start hypertonic saline and Ill do that for 10 mins or so then start the vest before I finish HS. I only do that when pressed for time though or if the stupid machine is going out on me and the treatments take foerever longer.

Why would the mind behind the Vest say that it's ok then?

I would think like anything else that there are exceptions and MAYBE this therapist found that some patients didnt get the most from their nebs while doing the vest. It is possible even if Dr. Warwick says its ok.

I think it depends strongly on the individual. If you are totally healthy and doing well, then do them at the same time. But I find that if I am tired or exacerbated then I just can't suck in enough of the med while the vest is on. Now that I am pregnant, I do them seperately b/c I just can't get the same amount of air in. Do what works for you. But if you really can't inhale it all with the vest then don't.

I have been doing my nebs while doing vest so I was just wondering. I think for me there is no way I would have time to properly do vest if not doing in conjunction with nebs so as long as it wasnt horrible then I woudl continue doing it. I have been getting good clearance but I DO have to remind myself to make sure I am breathign deep so I think someone made a very good point about that.

and lots CF clinics give varying advice based on what THEY think is best, not dr warwick or any other source unfortunately... my respiratory therapist told me using portable neb was fine for tobi. My primary CF doc also is not a fan of the vest (so of course I waited utnil the secondary doctor was on for the week made an appoitnment and strong armed him into sigining a RX <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ). That is why I think it is so great to use one another as a resource and to do our own reserach so thanks to everyone for sharing!
