All I know is I've gotten the Vest that Warwick told me to get.

i have no idea what the difference is between the full vest and the chest vest.

go to www.respirtech.com and get the jacket that looks like the one in the picture .... that's what i would recommend

It really is a matter of opinion but I prefer the chest vest. I didn't like vibrating my stomach. I think I remember you had a c-section too so it would be good because it's shorter and wouldn't irritate the wound. Something to note is that the chest vest comes up higher which is good because for me my upper lobes are the most effected. Also, the chest vest only inflates in the front where the full is front and back. They say this doesn't effect performance but I think you'll have to judge for yourself. For me, I cough up more goodies with the chest so I'll be sticking with it. Also you can use the chest vest through the whole pregnancy.

LouLou-you are using vest while pregnant? DId OB say ok or the vest people or both? I did not get any input on this so I never used it while trying to conceive or while pregnant and since it took so long to conceive that is why I am 'new' to the vest as it has been about 3 years. When they said chest vest only inflated on front I just didnt think it could be as effective which is why I picked old one but my upper lobes are also where issue is more so that is a good point about it coming up higher. I am very interested to hear your experience with the vest and pregnancy and you are correct I dont like how low down full vest goes (to my waist) but it is no where near my incision so that doesnt bother me.

Saskasuka-I have 103 so I need to stick with hillrom vests as I think mixing would be a bad idea.

thanks all keep comments comming

i referred you to the site so you can see what the vest looks like. you don't have to get the Vest from respirtech persay, but you asked if the Chest Vest or the Full Vest were better - i figured that the style of the respirtech Vest would resemble either the Chest vest or the Full Vest.

I have 104 vest (full) and use the following settings, all at pressure of 10 (which is the highest it will go and I still feel its not enough at times)...

10 mins.- 10

10 mins.-14

10 mins.-16 or 17

Amy, I couldn't pull up your blog with the link... It just took me to the forum page again. Am I doing something wrong? I've never actually been able to get in to read the blogs for some reason. Could you post a direct link to your blog about the settings? Or, is that what you DID do? Strange.

Thanks!

I still think it is worth a visit to teh blog to read the whole letter but here are the settings description copied from the blog. Is it possible if 10 does not feel strong enough for you that you may have an air leak in vest somewhere like my new one does? It still inflates just not as strong as my old one did. Or perhaps the vest is too big on you? The blog also said this regarding size.

First thing's 1st. Warwick had me bring my actual Vest (not the machine) to the visit. And what do you know - he said mine was the worst fitting jacket he had ever seen. Sweet. I wear an adult Small size jacket (not the Minnesota style...and I didn't even know there were different styles). Warwick said that the jacket didn't go up high enough (the middle part goes straight across the middle of my breasts) - it should be up to my collar bones. And the bottom is too low - shaking parts of me where I don't have lungs.

Oh yes and the straps were too lose. He says to messure the cicumference of your chest. Then at 10% to that. That should be the circumference of the Vest (how tight you should have it). Of course mine was wrong

He has measured, definitively, the optimal frequencies for maximum sputum production. 6, 8, 9, 18, 19, 20. Each to be done for 5 minutes each.

In terms of pressure, there's a sliding scale. To find the pressure that's best for you, you start at frequency 6. And pressure 3. Then you take a few breaths. If that's easy for you to breath, then you move to pressure 4. If you're cool with that, then pressure 5. At some point, you'll reach a point where it's uncomfortable to breath. When you reach that point, chose the pressure below that and stick with that.

For me, at frequency 6, pressure 8 was too hard to breath. So pressure 7 is optimal for me. For frequency 6.

So the sliding scale is as follows - when I move to frequencies 8 and 9, I must move 1 pressure point down to pressure 6. And when I move to frequencies 18, 19, 20, I move to pressure 5.

So if you were good at pressure 10 for frequency 6, you would move to pressure 9 at frequencies 8,9 and then pressure 7 for frequencies 18,19,20 (I don't know why it's not 8....but he purposely did it that way). Hopefully I can find a way to post this chart.

Thanks, Nicole!!! I really appreciate it! I will see about the fit of my vest (its an adult small, but have tried a child large in hospital and I can barely breath in the thing!), so I think I have the right size... but, I also think I need a new one, which I will order this week cause pieces of mine keep popping off! lol... the little connector pieces each only have one piece left... if that makes any sense.

Thanks for clarifying! Would love to see the chart sometime if you're able to post it too!!!! I REALLY appreciate it!!!
