Vision/Eye Sight

RE:Occasional Sight Issues

Just thought I'd reply again about this b/c I finally found an eye doctor who could give it a name, and some of you also experience this.

Weird vision symptoms:
I'd have these strange episodes, and still do, about 1x/month when I see kaledescope shapes that move around and then the center of where I'm looking turns black and I can only see things from my peripherial vision. It always lasts about 30 minutes and goes away. There's no pain with it, but I can feel a little light headed before it happens sometimes.

It's called an Ocular Migraine. Same thing as a migraine in your head, but this is in your eyeballs. Luckily there's no pain. But how weird is that?! They don't know why you get it and there's nothing they can do to fix it. Just another weird thing.

I have trouble with my eyes as well at certain times.. My eye doctor told me that the eyes are very sensitive to blood sugar levels. Usually if your blood sugar is high, it can give you vision problems.
Do you have diabetes?</end quote>

I have vision trouble when my blood sugars are way low, so yeah - I would look into the diabetes also.

Occasional Sight Issues

Hi Sally,

Yeah, I used to always suspect that it had some connection to me getting diabetes, but my doctor always told me I was fine and they weren't diabetes symptoms. This year I've been told I'm glucose impaired (but not full on CFRD) and went to see an endocrinologist for the first time last week. I asked her specifically about these vision episodes figuring she would shed some light on it all. She just crinkled up her nose and said, "No, those symptoms don't have anything to do with diabetes. You need to see an opthamologist."

So...who knows. Thanks for the input though.
