Vitamin A

I was told by my dietitian at my CF center to take 2 multivitamins per day. But each one contains 16,000 IU. If I took 2 per day that would be 32,000IU! The upper limit for vit A is 10,000 IU. Now I know I have severe fat malabsorption issues, but 32,000 IU sounds like maybe too much, and vit A is important but it has to be just right, not too much or not enough. What does everyone else think?

i had this same concern, and my doctor blew it off like i was talking nonsense. it was the aquadeks. they have similar amounts like you are talking about, and i am suppose to take 2 a day as well. while i was pregnant i refused to take them because i read that it can cause toxicity to the fetus, but my docs still pushed for me to take them along with a prenatal vitamin with even more added vitamin A. i only took the prenatal needless to say, and i had my vitamin levels checked very frequently to make sure the prenatal vitamins alone were giving me and the baby what we needed. (and it always was) i am not sure if it is so high becaue they think we dont absorb most of it or what? but even on a regular store bought vitamin with a much lower dose of vit A showed, my blood work showed no deficiency in my Vitamin A? i now take the aquadeks now that my baby is born, but i still have that concern.

When DS was on adeks/aquaadeks vitamin drops we were also told to supplement Vitamin A -- 10,000 iu and Vitamin E 400 IU. He takes Source CF Chewables -- twice a day and still supplements A, E & K.. Hmmm! His vitamin levels have always been middle of the road -- not high, not low...

I take 3 Aquadeks a day and when they checked my vitamin levels in October '10, I had a vitamin A deficiency and vitamin D deficiency. I've always had low vitamin D, but the vitamin A was a new thing.
