Vitamin D not E!

Hello Gunhild,
About the time I was diagnosed with CFRD, I was suffering from fatigue and was lacking energy most days. My Diabetic Specialist decided to test my vitamin levels. The results showed my bod was very depleted of Vit. D. Consequently I was given Cholecalciferol 50,000IU. Innitially I took one daily for three days and thereafter, I take one every month.
[they are strong].

I recall my Doc., telling me that without sufficient Vit.D, my bones could become brittle and thin and could lead to osteoporosis in later life.

Vit. D is found in many dietary sources, such as fish, eggs and that yukky cod liver oil. Good old sunshine is an excellent source too.

I take 50,000 IU every other day. My body doesn't absorb very well. I eat foods with it, but I'm almost always blow normal. Some symptoms my doc and I discussed (I took nutrition in a college class last semester)

bone pain (I did not have any)
*weakening teeth (I have this, my teeth are awfully brittle)
*muscle cramps (I have this, but it could be due to my muscle disease)
*broken bones/fractures could be a sign of weakening bones (I had this too)
rickets (bowlegs)

The list list goes on depending on how long you have been low and how low you've gotten etc. If you aren't below norrmal but are right on the line thye doc will probablly give you a supplement and a list of foods that contain vitamin d. Some foods are:
tuna
eggs
milk
liver
A link to a list of ideas is:

Also sun helps! My doc wanted me get outside for atleast 20 minutes a day. Although, I couldn't because I was on antibiotics.

Hi, thanks for your answers, they are very helpfull.

It's interesting regarding bone pain, becasue I have that, when the weather changes my lims ache and it can hurt really had. I mentioned that it might be artritis do my doctor, but he said that I couldn't have CF related artritis because that occurs when the CF is far progressed, but he didn't mention anything about vitamin D, I wish he had!

Also my teeth are bad, the break very easily... but I have never had any bones broken (knock on wood).
