Vitamin IV's?

I'm not sure what I think about them though I don't think they would be harmful. I have never even heard of them. I take lots of extra vitamins because I believe that CFers need 1.5 to 2 times the amount recommended for "regular" people (don't remember where I saw that). Also, a lot of the RDAs of vitamins and minerals are quite low. My vitamin levels are all normal. I do know that I need lots of extra magnesium to function properly. When low on mg I get tachycardia and bad asthma. My need for magnesium was very noticeable during my pregnancy.

Yes you should come over to the pregnancy board. We'll have lots of advice for you on everything from getting pregnant to caring for yourself and a newborn.

Anyways, since we got off topic, Tara & Caroline, what do you guys think about the vitamin IV's? Did you guys have good vitamin levels pre pregnancy? Dis they drop during your pregnancy? What was your energy level/tolerance before getting pregnant, & how has it changed since having your babies? </end quote></div>

I take oral vitamins, but have never tried (or heard of) IV Vitamins. My levels are low without oral supplements. (not sure of the numbers) but they are in range when I have supplements like "ADEKs", a specific brand of vitamin and calcium supplements. While I was pregnant I took one prenatal vitamin, one ADEK vitamin and two 600mg Calcium supplements each day. I never asked what my levels were (if you're looking for numbers, I'm sorry) but they were within a normal range with that regimen. In fact the doctors were more concerned that I would over do it with too much Vitamin A during pregnancy. That is a big concern while pregnant, and I"m ashamed to say, I don't know why. I remember they watched my A levels closely, I was always "normal" and didn't exceed any safe vitamin A levels during pregnancy.

Before pregnancy I worked full time, did two nebulizer treatments each day (bronchodilator, pulmozyme and antibiotic like TOBI) and worked out twice a week. Usually one hour of yoga followed by an hour at the gym for weight training twice a week. Once I got pregnant, I did not work out. I was simply too tired. I was what I like to call "ridiculously tired". It was ridiculous! That lasted for the first 17 weeks of pregnancy. Then I got sick and my lung function dropped from the mid 50's to the mid 40's. At 20 weeks I started inhaling Aztreonam and continued this for 30 on/30 days off for the rest of my pregnancy (and beyond). My FEV1 actually improved to the mid 60's. Higher than they had been in YEARS! I was 38 weeks pregnant with twins and maybe it was the increased blood volume bringing more oxygen to my lungs. i don't know (and frankly don't care) my lungs did not feel compromised or "squished" like so many pregnant women feel.

I can't say I had a lot of energy. After 20 weeks, I quit my job to work on my health full time. I slept a lot. I ate a lot. That was about it for the remainder of my pregnancy. I took things slow and had several "good hours" throughout my day where I could shop and socialize outside my house. It was really one of the most favorite times of my life thus far. I enjoyed being pregnant so much.

I hope some of this helps. I'm really sorry I cannot help you with IV Vitamins. I'm not quite sure what I think of them. I've never heard of such a thing! Good luck with your decision. And good luck in your journey to add to your family.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I do remember also supplementing with Folic Acid. Although my prenatal vitamin had folic acid in it, I also took a folic acid supplement, and I can't remember the dosage. It was over the counter. I think it was just one extra pill.

when I was being treated by a physician for chemical sensitivity she gave me magnesium IV. that was before I know about the CF. She said everyone is deficient in magnesium (everyone with chemical sensitivity, or all of us?) No ill effects and I still take a whole bunch of oral mg.
