Waiting List for Hypertonic saline

I tried to refill Maggie's script for 10% saline for mixing her HTS, they said the manufacturer is backordered. PIA. Called around to a couple pharmacys, found one that can compound HTS, but it's over an hour away! It's just salt water. Argh!!!! I don't want Maggie to run out of the saline especially with preschool starting, HTS seems to keep her germs at bay. Guess i'll call around some more, otherwise I'm driving over an hour each way for some sterile salty water. Hmm, if I was looking for viagra you bet it would be in stock.

Last I heard, it was backordered until Sept. (my local pharmacy can't get it either). I ordered some compounded 7% from Pharmacutical Specialties Inc. (or something like that-lol- PSI pharmacy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ). It is part of a network of pharmacies, so depending on where you live, you may have a different one to order from. There are several different places to get it if you want to order it- I'm sure you'll hear about some more places. I think Foundation Care is another one.

I also ordered some 3% HS while I was waiting to see when the 10% would be available, and it did fine, I just didn't cough up as much (or as cough as hard), but it was also a rest from the stronger 7%. I am using the 3% when I get a pulled rib muscle or when my back (or throat- sinus infection) is bothering me, so that turned out to be a plus <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> .

A lot of places are out of it, and have been out for several months now -- you might be better off to just drive and get it -- at least they have it! Also ask them if you can pay to have it mailed to you -- with the cost of gas, and your time It would be far cheaper to pay the postage rate!

DEY has officially had a shortage of saline. I'm not thrilled about it. HS was working SO well for me. I hate spending the extra effort to make my own, so in the interim I'm drinking plenty of salted water (aka Mountain Spring Margaritas) and taking Mucinex. I'm also flushing my sinuses more often than usual with a saline rinse.

In the meantime I'm hoping my lung oysters don't start culturing any pearls.
