waiting on sweat test results

So when my baby was born almost two months ago her irt levels were high so they preformed a DNA test for the 32 most common mutations (i live in italy). The test result came back negative but I know there are over 1800so i'm freaking out. We did the sweat test yesturday and they said that the results will be given NEXT wednesday!!!! Everyone keeps telling me not to worry but how do you not when only 32 mutations were screened?? They said that IRT levels could be high also due to a stressful labour! My water brokeon theMonday morning 3:30am and I gave birth with no epidural the tuesday afternoon at 2:10!!! I spent the entire time screaming and pleading for a c-section. They gave me three shots ofantibiotics because my water broke (this was to avoid infection) and i can tell you thosehurt more than the contractions....Could this be classified as a stressful labour? Did my little girl suffer that much to throw of IRT levels? These are all the questions I ask myself. Every time she has a BM I freak out I think it's not normal. I did notice some mucus and it was kinda stringy.....She seems to be putting on weight normally, she was 50cm at birthand now she is 57.5cm long! I don't know I'm going nuts. I'm the type of person who needs to know for sure!!! This type of anticipation is enough to drive me crazy(and i really am going crazy)!! I want to know does she have it or not!!! Its been two horrible months of waiting..does it usually take this long in other countriesto bediagnosed?? I'm Canadian and I really like there approach (health care)much better. Sorry everyone i just needed to vent and seek some answers. Thanks for taking the time to read

Diagnosing takes time - sometimes - a week - wo - sometimes a few months.I afraid you must wait for the sweat test - it's still considered the most important way of diagnosing since the gene testing is very complicated and still alot of mutations are unknown.
Your birth was stressfull - since you say it was... no matter what it looked like - your hormones influeneced the child .. so if you feel it was stressfull then ..it was.
Say hallo to Canada from me - I live in Poland but I used to live for some time in Monteral.

For those with an elevated IRT, only about 10% turn out to have CF. Its a pretty bad indicator actually, but its good for screeening who should have genetic work done.

If your doctor thinkgs the IRT result was because of stressful labor, couldn't they redo the IRT to see if it has gone down?

Hang in there, we have all been through the long miserable wait....it took 5 months to get my daughter diagnosed.

Try not to worry. You can not control how long the test takes. You can control how you deal with the anticipation. In the long run, wheather she has it or not is not going to matter throughout this week long period. Whats most important is that you spend this time with your newborn loving her and caring for her. She can sense your emotions, so try to stay calm and hope for the best. If she does have CF, it is not the end of the world, she still has a mom that loves her. right?
