I am pleased to say I have reached my goal of 140 pounds and I am 5'8" I still feel I have a slim build but would like to gain another ten pounds. We will see as time goes by if I really need it or not. This is the highest I ever weighed and I am not on any steroids. I have to get a new photo soon. Going away on vacation soon so will get a vacation shot My weight that I gained was evenly distributed. I did not rush to gain it but did so over six months.

wow, i'm shocked that I fall in the high end of the range for male small frame which is what I am and even almost middle of medium build. I still thought I was below the range.

Thanks for the chart. I've always been curious where I stand in ideal weight.
What are you taking post tx in place of steroids?

Hi Lynda

I take Advair one puff twice daily instead of oral steroids.

I am taking a new enzyme in addition to the one I was taking before. One is like a cf enzyme made from porcine and the other is a vegetable enzyme so I am getting a broad spectrum of enzymes. They have the same properties but I think there must be something to the combo. My stomach is so much better. I get perfect sinkers. lol

I feel really good too. I am going to try to gain another ten pounds just to keep around. As long as it turns to muscle I have no problem but fat I am not crazy about so that Is why I am gaining slowly. I workout almost everyday so that helps.

Risa, thanks for sharing the chart. My daughter is 5 ft. 107 lbs. It's good to know that she is on the chart. We will have to work on her weight a little bit.

You are welcome Sue. I remember seeing this chart many years ago and it is good to keep a number in mind to keep up the motivation. I think this chart is pretty much the same as it was twenty years ago. So with people who are into body building the chart may vary. Who is to say what is the right weight for you? I think whatever makes a person feel healthy is a good weight.

With CF an extra ten pounds is very good to have on a rainy day With me a transplant patient it is also good to have an extra ten pounds too.

Well I'm 5'6 and a bit, and I have a small frame so I just make the low end of my ideal weight. I'm 121 and my ideal weight should be 120-133. By this summer I'm hoping on hitting 130-132.

I am probably considered obsese on any weight chart. I'm 6 foot tall, and before I started to work I was 210 lbs (granted, I have a good deal of muscle though, with only a slight gut). I drink so much water at work, and I have heavy gear on, that when I weighed 2 days ago after being there mid shift, I was 119 lbs lol. My gut has gotten smaller though overall...I don't eat too much while there, and drink tons of water.

After looking around on the net for a weight chart, I see that all weight charts are not created equal. Here is a weight chart for folks who are super healthy and who must be all muscle. The weights vary greatly compared to the weight chart above.

Hi Risa

Well according to the chart for men with large frame
I am over weight, I am 5 10 227, but I have lifted weights for
a long time, so I do have more than normal solid mass.
I can bench more than 100 lbs above my weight,
the chart says I should be at max 180 at 180 I look frail.
the charts are very general and the correct weight of
a person should be taken up with Your Doctor and not a chart.
I had one intern tell me I should weigh about 150, I told my Doc this
he had a long talk with this young intern, that was about 18 years ago

So a chart is just a chart, every Cfer is different as are none Cfers different...

I totally agree Brad. I remember referring to a weight chart at my cf doctors office twenty five years ago and I felt motivated that I had to achieve weight gain and my number that I had to gain was not that far off. IT helped me and Just yesterday for the first time I was curious to see if weight charts have changed in the past twenty years.

I agree that everyone is so different but to see a weight chart for an underweight person could be a motivator. It did for me.
