Weird allergies?

I was wondering if anyone here had ever developed weird allergies.Starting at age 21, it was like I became allergic to my skin, and my dermo and doc guessed it was just from a lifetime of antibiotice. Now I am allergic to most soap products, toothpaste, cinnamon, mint, face lotions. It's the weirdest thing. When I use these items, I get a very itchy rash on my scalp, face and chest. I've learned to find substitute items, but I wanted to know if any of you had such weird problems from taking so many meds?Piper

For almost 3 years I could hardly tolerate the sun because I'd break out into a rash along with hive like things. I believe they called it sun poisoning... We later found out that high doses of cipro over a long period of time can do that. That's really the only allergic reaction I've ever had...

ive become allergic to alot of things over time. ill be fine and then something will set it off, like a bite or waxing my eyebrows. i just break out in a rash. i dont use any soap products to wash my face. ive tried other stuff before and it just gets itchy and peely. i use a non soap cleanser and a light non perfumed moisturiser to stop the itchiness.

Weirdly enough, I developed an allergy to alcohol just as I was turning 21. It was my last year in college and I started breaking out in tiny dark red spots on my legs and forearms. For about 2 years, I didn't know it was alcohol. My doctors thought it was an autoimmune disease and tested me for Lupus and other things. They even put me on a medication for Malaria. Finally I tried eliminating things from my diet. Sure enough... it was the alcohol. Now I get the spots if I have a cold and eat a lot of cough drops or if I take Nyquil. Weird huh?

I break out into a rash with hives in the sun too. I also am very sensitive to tape products used on my skin. I've been tested for many auto-immune diseases but all the tests are not conclusive. They know something is wrong, they just can't say exactly what.To whomever talked about the Cipro rash/hives... does it ever go away or are you stuck with it forever?

I've been having some reactions to something in my house for over 2 years now. At first it was really bad. I could barely breathe. In the last couple of weeks I think I may have figured it out. Cat food! I think it's our cat's dry food. We always fed her in the house so it was always around. We started feeding her outside about a month ago and then my daughter left the bag open for a couple of days in the laundry room. I was having problems again and then I figured it out. I stuck my head in the bag and almost instantly my nose got stuffed up and my lungs felt the same way.I've also had some pretty bad reactions to mesquito bites this year and the last several years I've have pretty bad reactions to yellow jacket bites. It seems they get worse the older I get.Tammy 43wcf

I have developed the tape allergies....I have also developed wierd alergies...well actually sensitivities to certain formulasof drugs. I can have the oral antibiotic Bactrim but I can't have the IV drug Fortazadine. I can't go home on meds anymore becasuethe preservatives the home care company uses to give me a more than one day supply sets me off in hives and difficulty breathing. The body is a funny thing. Look to the formulary things...like alcohol or propylene glycol as suspects keg in the falls

I became allergic to Cephalosporins in the hospital one time when I was about 15, after having taken them for years with no problems. After that I found out I'd also become allergic to Penicillin. I've had a port for 8 years now and had had all the heparin flushes that go with it without incident, but about 4 years ago, I started to itch after every flush. It got bad enough that just flushing the heparin out of the line with saline (like in a hospital stay) I'd react. Taking Benadryl stopped it, but every flush became a little worse. When I was 6 months pregnant and had my port flushed, I went into anaphylactic shock. Since then, I have to have my port flushed every 2 weeks with preservative free saline. The weirdo thing is that in the allergy tests for the different ingredients, I don't react to anything. HollyCatheryn25 w/cf mom of 2 yr old w/o CF
