Weird question maybe OT

Josh has recently been craving limes and eats them whole. He has been on imipenem since May and has almost stopped eating, except for an occasional smoothie. He gets all of his calories via g-tube feeds.

What is his body lacking that would cause a craving for limes?

I did a search think its maybe Vit. C deficiency (scurvy) which is apparently common in teens and those with eating disorders. It listed symptoms and one was capillary wall ruptures. I wondered if this has anything to do with his hemoptysis a few weeks back?

Any ideas?

Is there a dietician at his clinic??? Even with the tube feedings he still needs a healthy variety. Maybe you could cut back on the amount he gets at night so he's hungry during the day and will eat better.

Our nutritionist at the clinic says she wants him to get 3000 calories a day to maintain and is happy he can get them even by tube. She is glad we are working with the psychological aspects of why he doesn't eat (its not her area).

We're seeing his doctor today, but I can already guess its not her area either.
